In this prayer, we ask for the intercession of Saint Joseph to see, with sincerity, what has been robbing our hearts of the presence of the Lord: pride, haste, resentment, vanity, vices, distractions, disordered affections, false piety, spiritual laziness, and everything that occupies the place of God within us. Saint Joseph was a just, silent, and obedient man. He did not compete with God. He did not transform his own reason into a throne. When he did not understand everything, he remained faithful. When the angel spoke, he obeyed. When it was necessary to be silent, he was silent. When it was necessary to act, he rose and walked. This prayer is also an examination of conscience: what has extinguished my faith? What habit has robbed me of my prayer? What sin have I been keeping as a companion? What vanity has clothed itself in the garment of virtue? What desire has held more power over me than the will of God? May this prayer not remain merely an emotion, but lead us to concrete steps: returning to the Word of God, to Holy Mass, to confession, to spiritual direction, to faithful prayer, and to a life of true conversion.
