pathirkunnathu mana is avery important naga worship center in kerala this very ancient illam is located at mundakkottukurissi near cherpulasseri in palakkad district it is believed to parasurama have started naga worship in kerala.Naga worship can be seen from ancient times in old Kerala from Kanyakumari to Gokarnam.There are only six or seven families in Kerala who have the traditional authority to worship Naga.Starting from southern Kerala to northern Kerala, there are Naga worship centers like Vettikode, Mannarasala, Nagampoozhi Mana, Ameda, PambumMekkad and Pathirikunnthu mana.Of these, Pathirikunnath mana is said to be the most important for Naga worship in the northern districts from Palakkad onwards.this illam is also known as kulappurathumana.It is a very peaceful and beautiful place.This is not a temple. It is an ancient Namboothiri family where Naga Chaitanyam resides.nagaraja is the main deity here.There are many small forest ( kavu ), ponds and naga figures around the Illam..any day of the year ,irrespective of cast and creed one can come here for sarpadosha remedies and darsan.Mandala period of the vrushchika month and the Ailiyalam of the kanni month.This mana has a completely different story to tell than other serpent worship centers.it is a vast area of above ten acres .There is an Ayyappa temple on the south side.Being an ancient shrine, this Ayyappa temple is of great importance.The history of this place and naga worships starts from this Ayyappaswamy.This is a very heart touching story.Once upon a time the last couple of this illam had no children even after a long time of marriage Distressed childless. they prayed to their deity Ayyappan to give them a child.As per Ayyappaswamy's instructions, they reached Thrissur Vadakkumnatha Temple and prayed.Vadakkumnathan, pleased with Namboothiri's prayer, instructed Namboothiri to return home.Some time after Namboothiri returned home, his wife became pregnant and gave birth to a baby naga and a baby boy. both of them grew up inside the Illam, and the Naga was always seen inside the Illam along with his co-born Unni.Scared of seeing this, none of the relatives came home even if invited to a function.Finally mother and father told Naga that you should not go out too much. If they see you, no one will come home.Naga did not pay attention to what his father said, but his mother said this as a request, which made Naga sad.Nagam said 'mom don't worry no one will see me outside from now on.Mother should feed me every day.I am going to disappear into the northern room of the house.I will protect this house the next thousand years with progency .This house will become famous for Sarpa Dosha remedies.nagam also blessed that this house will be a refuge for those who are troubled without children.This house will always have my presence and protection. After saying this, Naga disappeared.This emotional story is truly heart touching everyday 06:00 AM Opening Darshan starts from 6:00 am every day 12:00 PM closing The morning darshan will end at 12 noon 04:00 PM Opening Darshan will start at 4 pm. nb:Darshan is only for those who have booked Sarpabali in the evening. 06:00 PM closing Darshan for the day ends at 6 pm.
