LÁPIZ de COLOR; Mezcla y Atributos del COLOR

In this video, I explore the technique of colored pencils, demonstrating the characteristics of their mixing through a basic exercise using only primary and secondary colors, plus black. I put into practice the terminology of the three attributes of color, which was explained in detail in the video “COLOR; from perception to plasticity. Part 4”    • COLOR; de la percepción a lo plástico. Par...   The colored pencil lead is made with wax-based pigment containing other binders, giving this material, like crayons, its unique characteristics. The quality available on the market varies widely, ranging from school-grade pencils—which are not recommended—to professional-grade artist-grade pencils offered in sets of up to 120 colors and at a higher price. Colored pencils are a widespread material, used from an early age in elementary school. However, due to their ease of application, they are often overlooked in art education or mistakenly taught as Color Theory. In teaching practice, the characteristics and proper use of colored pencils are somewhat unknown due to their technical peculiarities. They are often dismissed as technical materials and used merely for sketching, much like pastels. However, this material offers great versatility and functionality for design, illustration, and the visual arts. For its correct application, it is essential to maintain the principles of representation (extensively detailed in the various videos on this channel). In another video, I will illustrate this with the progressive construction of a colored pencil image, building from light tones and gradually adding layers of darker tones while preserving the illuminated areas—very similar to the development of a watercolor painting. Therefore, colored pencils are an essential technical medium that effectively promotes an understanding of watercolor techniques, once the fundamental concepts necessary for constructing a color image are assimilated, including understanding the representational system and the act of looking. And of course, creativity in the use of colored pencils incorporates their treatment, application, and opening up a wide range of combinations with other materials, which will be the subject of another video where I will explore the variety of watercolor pencils, and the use of colored pencils with pastels, graphite, or markers, in addition to other methods…
