LÁPIZ de COLOR; GRAFITO y Lápiz de Color

This video introduces a mixed media technique for creating images using graphite and colored pencil on bond paper. The graphite is applied with a mechanical pencil and blended to form a base for a subsequent layer of colored pencil strokes. The video demonstrates, by copying the image of a simple object, the gradual steps of using graphite with HB and 2B leads in a mechanical pencil. The graphite is then blended progressively with the blending tool to create a solid tonal base of chiaroscuro upon which the colored pencil and eraser are applied. The colored pencil is handled by layering with a limited range of primary and secondary colors, plus black, enhancing the blending of complementary colors according to the HSB color model, which describes the three attributes of color already discussed in detail in the video “COLOR; from perception to plasticity. Part 4”    • COLOR; de la percepción a lo plástico. Par...   This technique offers the versatility to be used both with an expressive, calligraphic, plastic approach and with meticulous representation of figurative details. The mixed use of both techniques enhances a unique texture with enormous possibilities by combining a grayish tonal base that embraces and harmonizes the waxy strokes of the colored pencil, where the judicious use of the eraser for drawing expands the control of both techniques.
