Double Header

Throughout the season I take various folks, mostly non falconers, out to witness the art of Falconry and its always rewarding for me to see the look on their faces and often visible emotion as they struggle to process what they have just witnessed. Of course after 45 years of doing this it still doesn't get old for me either. Today I took a gun dog breeder and bird hunter out with me as he is seriously thinking of becoming a falconer himself. He certainly has the field craft and dogs for the job and wants to take bird hunting to the next level. What transpires a one of those lucky days when all things come together and we get a double header. Of particular satisfaction for me was seeing the tiercel peales catch his 5th late season partridge in fine style. This is enough to reinforce the behaviour and understanding of good position and will hold this young tiercel Peales in good standing for the beginning of next season. Photos by Ben Fretz
