Ständchen (Franz Schubert) performed by Rippeth Edwards flute and guitar duo

Schwanengesang (Swan song) was written by Schubert at the end of his life and published posthumously. Ständchen is the 4th song, a Serenade, where the singer exhorts his lover to make him happy. Schubert was a gifted classical guitarist and it is thought many of his songs were written with the guitar in mind. Many were published during his lifetime with guitar accompaniment arranged by contemporary guitarists such as Gustav Mertz or Napoleon Coste. This arrangement by the contemporary guitarist David Massey was recorded live at a performance at Frenchay Church, Bristol on 14/6/26.
