The Mackenzie Shirilla Trial Transcripts: Opening Statements (With her Admission of Guilt)

Mackenzie Shirilla is an Ohio woman serving a 15-years-to-life prison sentence for the July 2022 murders of her 20-year-old boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their 19-year-old friend, Davion Flanagan.She was found to have intentionally drove her car into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio, at approximately 100 mph. Investigators found that her foot was pressed completely on the accelerator and the brakes were never applied. In August 2023, she was found guilty of murder, felonious assault, and aggravated vehicular homicide in a bench trial. Shirilla, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is incarcerated at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio, and will not be eligible for parole until 2037. In the meantime, however, Mackenzie's parents have vowed to do everything they can, to "never stop" trying to get her out of prison. In order to fact check the Shirilla's I decided to use our FOIA request powers to get the trial transcripts, and boy was that helpful. Today we start with opening statements because well, you have to start somewhere.
