I’ve come down to the reservoir in the late afternoon, with barely an hour to spare before nightfall, to see if the fish get active at sunset. It’s a curious situation: we’re fishing right next to an area where there’s been a fire today, and you can see the water-bombing planes loading water very close to us. What’s more, the water level has dropped dramatically, especially in this section at the tail end where the river flows in. I’m trying my luck with a silver-coloured jerkbait to make the most of the last glimmers of sunlight. Although there seems to be no activity on the surface, we had a surprise as soon as we arrived.
