How good was this! | Free & Donation Camps | Unexpected Pleasures

Fuel prices are biting hard across Australia, so we set ourselves a challenge — stay closer to home and see if the adventure still holds up. Turns out… it does. In this episode, we head out west from Canberra into regional New South Wales, chasing red dirt, free camps, and a much-needed reset. What we found? One of the most scenic free camps we’ve experienced at Tout’s Lookout near Young, complete with wild winds, freezing temps, and a sunrise that made it all worth it. From levelling struggles and earwig invasions (yep… hundreds of them) to pancakes on the Jetboil Gensis and unexpected roadside discoveries like Iandra Castle, this trip reminded us that you don’t have to go far to find something special. We roll into Grenfell NSW — a historic gold rush town full of character, silo art, classic country pubs, and a relaxed donation campground. And just when we thought the day was done, we stumbled across a live show by The Pleasures at the Cordial Factory… proof that sometimes the best moments aren’t planned. Even during a fuel crisis, we’re finding unexpected pleasures — in the places, the people, and the little surprises along the way. We camped at: • Tout’s Lookout (free camp near Young NSW) • Grenfell NSW (donation camp + town highlights) • Weddin Mountains National Park (Ben Hall’s Campground) If you enjoy real, unscripted Aussie travel — the ups, downs, and everything in between — hit subscribe and come along for the ride.
