CORONEL LENISE DURÃO: EU SOU MÉDICA E SEI COMO MELHORAR A SAÚDE PÚBLICA - HISTÓRIAS DA GENTE

“I want to stop being a target for people to throw stones at me, so I can become the stone that helps improve our country.” This phrase by Colonel Lenise Durão summarizes everything she has built over decades of struggle. Lenise Durão was born inside the Military Police Hospital, the daughter of a police doctor and an extremely strict teacher. She married at 19 to the man she met at 15, who supported her throughout her medical studies at UERJ. She had her first child between her fourth and fifth year of high school, took her final exam three days after giving birth, and only managed to have her second child after joining the Military Police. In 1996, she was one of the first women to join the health area of the Military Police, at a time when general surgery was almost exclusively male territory. You had to assert yourself every day. In 2010, already a reference in organization, she was assigned to register items in the state's purchasing system (SIGA). You did everything right. Even so, she received a professional registration (DRT) and experienced a revolt that still marks her story today. In this moving conversation, she recounts the real victories she built—bleeding control courses that saved police officers' lives and the expansion of services in hospitals in the interior—but also talks about the present moment: the free time after her career, the group of women victims of violence and femicide that she started attending (Rio is the third state that kills the most women in Brazil), and the decision to want to continue serving, but in a different way. 📌 WHAT YOU WILL SEE IN THIS VIDEO ────────────────────────────────── 00:00 Opening with a hook — the unfair DRT that outraged Lenise 03:00 Childhood inside the PM hospital and the strict mother 06:00 The husband who supported everything and the son being born during college 09:00 Pioneer in the PM: a woman in a specialty dominated by men 12:00 2010: the new colonel, the SIGA and the punishment she didn't deserve 15:00 The achievements who saved lives and improved hospitals in the interior 6:00 PM Today: welcoming women victims of violence and studying femicide 9:00 PM The final message: “I want to be the stone, not the showcase” *👇 Did you like this story?
