The discovery of the Chalcolithic fortress of Cortijo Lobato has sparked great interest in Extremadura's prehistoric heritage. Although particularly spectacular, this fortification is one of many in the Tierra de Barros area, a region known for its fertile soils, the epicenter of which may have been the La Pijotilla site.
