Texas flood emergency grows as high-water rescues mount, evacuations expand

Widening evacuation warnings and high-water rescues continued across Central and South Texas Thursday after days of relentless rain turned roads into rivers, stranded motorists and triggered dangerous flooding across the Texas Hill Country, prompting urgent warnings to move to higher ground. Emergency crews worked through the night rescuing people trapped by rising water as flood conditions worsened in communities stretching from Kerr County to Uvalde County. Texas Game Wardens have participated in more than 40 rescues so far, most of them in Uvalde County, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The National Weather Service warned that a "large and deadly flood wave" was moving down the Guadalupe River — the same river devastated by catastrophic flooding last summer that killed more than 100 people, including dozens of children and counselors at Camp Mystic. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries from the current flooding.
