La Romana Cruise Port Guide: Exploring the Free Pools in Port | What to do in La Romana with Kids

Episode 6: La Romana, Dominican Republic Pools. Bars. Ocean view, but no beach. When researching what to do in La Romana, we came across a lot of cruisers' opinions about this port being a “one and done” for so many and how they didn’t feel safe when venturing outside of the port. Because we travel with our two young daughters, this feedback was definitely on our minds. If other cruisers didn’t feel safe leaving port, should we be leaving port by ourselves with our little girls in the first place? As we tossed La Romana excursion ideas around and expressed fears of “what ifs” if we left the port on our own, we were trying to figure out how our family could safely spend our day. Thankfully, La Romana’s cruise port has free swimming pools for cruise passengers right in port. The pools and sun loungers are free to use, but everything else is going to cost extra. Umbrella and locker rentals, climbing the lighthouse, food, and drinks, all have an additional charge. There’s no beach access, but there’s ocean view all around. We didn’t find much information about the port's pools prior to our visit, so we made a video with as much information as we could gather (in the rain!), to help the next cruisers visiting La Romana.
