Building the TotalBoat Sport Dory - Episode 1 (Season 2 Premiere)

This is it! The premiere episode of Tips from a Shipwright: Season 2 featuring the one and only Master Shipwright Louis Sauzedde! This season, Lou will be showing us how to build an ideal 14 foot wooden sailing dory, incorporating his newest ideas and concepts for this new and unique TotalBoat Sport Dory build. The series will feature 36 videos, released on Friday's, 6 of which will feature an audience Q&A where fans can ask Lou questions about the build and more. The dory will not only have all the abilities and tools needed to function and navigate well under sail, but will also be trimmed as a rowing dory, and will also have the ability to accommodate a small gas or electric outboard motor, which could be neatly hidden and used from a through-hull motor well, within the boat itself. Lou will also incorporate an altogether different idea he has for avoiding the drag of a conventional rudder on sailing dories, and will use an oar instead, building a unique through-hull pivot port for an oar to better serve as the dory’s rudder. He will then take you over to his friend’s saw mill, right here in Exeter, Rhode Island, where he will select the proper log of Atlantic White Cedar that he advises using for this boat. You will see how planning and cutting this log into the most and best possible planks is planned and done!
