Shadowscapes Tarot Deck Review

This is a review of the Shadowscapes Tarot Deck written by Barbara Moore and Stephanie Pui-Mun Law and illustrated by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law. Shadowscapes Tarot was published in 2010 by Llewellyn Publishers, and was in its twelfth printing by 2021. This review discusses the deck and accompanying guidebook and goes through the deck card by card. Tarotists can use this review to see if the Shadowscapes Tarot deck is one that would be of interest for their collection and use. Barbara Moore is a prolific tarot writer with a long relationship with Llewellyn Publishers. Other decks she has written include Good Fortune Tarot, Steampunk Tarot, Wizard’s Tarot, Trick or Treat Tarot, Tarot Your Way/Classic Llewellyn Tarot, and many others, as well as books on tarot, one of my favorite being Tarot Spreads. Her website is www.tarotshaman.com. Stephanie Pui-Mun Law is an illustrator known for her fantasy work. She has also illustrated for Wizards of the Coast, and a number of other book publishers. Her work also appears regularly in magazines such as Realms of Fantasy, Cricket, and Cicada. She started her professional life as a computer programmer with a penchant for painting, but after a few years she let go of the program and embraced art full time. Go Stephanie! This deck has 78 cards, 2 ¾ x 4 ¾ in, or roughly 7 x 12 cm. There are 22 major arcana, 56 minor arcana in four suits – wands, cups, swords and pentacles. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen and King. There is a full-size accompanying manual, The Shadowscapes Companion, 253 pages, with black and white illustrations. The definitions do not specifically have reversed meanings, but each card has a positive and negative to it, and that is included in the card descriptions. The theme is a fairy-fantasy with a beautiful organic fluidity and lots of beautiful symbolic details.
