Beyond headsets, Alan discusses Poly’s desk phones and hybrid work-solutions. While many companies moved away from traditional handsets in favour of soft-phones, Poly is seeing some return to physical phones — partly because of ergonomic or interaction preferences (for example users preferring the tactile feel of a handset). He also highlights that Poly’s phones run Android or Windows depending on the model, support direct dial buttons/accessories, and integrate with PBX or UC (unified communications) systems. The next major area covered is video collaboration hardware. Poly offers cameras and all-in-one systems for meeting rooms. One example: a dual-camera system where one lens handles short-range participants, the other covers the back of the room. Together they create a balanced image where front and back participants appear equally visible and sized. These systems include speaker and microphone arrays, directional framing, face-tracking, window/background exclusion zones, and room-acoustics diagnostics (e.g., checking for reflections in glass-walled rooms). Alan emphasises a trend toward simplicity: users don’t want to walk into a meeting room and feel lost among cables and configuration options. Poly aims for “walk-in, click-meet” setups so that sharing presentation content, initiating a call, or switching platforms is intuitive. The user experience is fundamental in hybrid work scenarios. He then mentions something more forward-looking: a “light field” or 3D video communication system developed with Google: HP Dimension with Google Beam. This uses a 65-inch light-field display, multiple cameras, spatial audio and adaptive lighting to simulate face-to-face presence without headsets or glasses. According to HP, participants using this system reported improved non-verbal cues and memory recall compared with typical 2D video calls. ([HP][1]) The technology isn’t yet mainstream but is positioned for high-end enterprise, with shipping expected later in 2025. Price context: it’s in the ball-park of USD $25,000 for the system. ([Futurum][2]) In conclusion, Poly is pushing across two main axes: *audio clarity* (headsets, mics, voice-AI) and *video equity* (ensuring every participant is seen and heard equally, regardless of location or room layout). The evolution toward immersive, 3D communication is the next frontier. For hybrid-work setups — home offices, meeting rooms, huddle spaces — they’re delivering modular systems that scale.
