Casa C: una casa a corte nella Valle d'Itria, omaggio alla tradizione pugliese - Corsaro Architetti

House C - Corsaro Architetti Puglia In the countryside of the Itria Valley, one of Puglia's most distinctive regions, stands a private home conceived as a tribute to the landscape and local building traditions. Located on a sloping plot between a road to the north and a valley with panoramic views to the south, the house is protected from the public road by a wall that encloses the living spaces and opens onto the landscape, creating an internal courtyard around which all outdoor activities are organized. This architectural device simultaneously ensures privacy, orientation, and continuity with the local settlement tradition. The main entrance leads from the outside, through a garden, directly to the heart of the home: a living space divided into a dining area, kitchen, and living room. The house is spread across two distinct wings. The master wing houses the sleeping area with an en suite bathroom, while the opposite wing accommodates the two guest bedrooms. Each room has a private garden overlooking a different side of the landscape, ensuring complete visual independence and the absence of interference between occupants: a solution that combines hospitality and privacy with great compositional elegance. The building is constructed entirely of limestone, a material that establishes a direct dialogue with the local building culture. The façades are finished with a light whitewash that homogenizes the surfaces and protects them from the elements, giving the whole a formal purity consistent with Apulian vernacular architecture. In some areas, the stone walls have been dematerialized through three-dimensional bas-reliefs and cracks that filter natural light during the day. At night, the mechanism is reversed: artificial light flows outward, transforming the entire home into a large source of light in the landscape. The interior lighting was meticulously designed. The goal was to achieve a warm light that would be absorbed by the limestone without glare, creating an intimate and relaxing atmosphere consistent with the materials of the spaces. The furnishings and all the details were also designed by the studio, including the kitchen, which features a special structure that allows for the island's cantilevered top. The design of the outdoor spaces followed the same methodological rigor. The choice of plant species fell exclusively on native species, selected to integrate with the surrounding landscape and maintain a visual continuum with the wild vegetation of the Itria Valley. The complexity of this architecture is not immediately apparent. The geometry appears simple and clean, consistent with the Mediterranean aesthetic, but conceals a sophisticated spatial and technical articulation. This is the hallmark of the project: a simplicity achieved through complexity, where every technical and material choice serves an architectural concept rooted in the place, respectful of history, and capable of enduring over time.
