Col du Lauzet, Road D738, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France - by motorcycle and drone

For car and motorbike travellers, the ascent to the Col du Lauzet is a dead end. Nevertheless, it is worth the effort, as the route is beautiful, offers wonderful views of the alpine mountains and near the pass is the small mountain lake ‘Lac du Lauzet’, which invites you to take a break in a marvellous mountain setting. The journey begins in the small village of Saint-Crépin, which is located around 8 kilometres north of Guillestre on the main N94 road. From Saint-Crépin, take the D738 road eastwards up the mountain to the village of Le Villard. Up to this point, the road is tarmac, well developed and therefore easy to cycle on. You have now covered around 6 km of the total 18 km. From Le Villard, the route is then a gravel road that leads uphill through alternating forest and meadow areas. The gravel road is also quite well constructed and easy to cycle on if you are careful. Only the last 2 kilometres of the route are a little rocky. Shortly before the top of the pass is the mountain lake ‘Lac du Lauzet’. Shortly after the top of the pass, the route is normally blocked by a closed barrier. The road, which is still passable, then leads into a depression and ends there.
