And we’ve got some other structures on the property, about 2 acres. They kind of match that. My wife has worked very hard to make it a beautiful area with the yard and the flowers. Over across the yard you can see the chicken coop. The coloring kind of matches the barn and then we also have a garage here that’s also the monitor style with the same coloring. You’ll notice we kind of have a barn theme going here on the property. So let’s go ahead and get our Third Coast Craftsman, our style tour going, shall we? You’ll notice a lot of iris in bloom right now. You’ll notice that we put the door on the end of the run, rather than the side like Third Coast Craftsman did. Just made sense based on where this coop is located on our property. We also did a little bit higher roof because we knew that the end would be lower so we got this door probably about 6 feet tall. The rest of it is accordingly a bit taller. The first thing you’ll notice is we’ve got a Dutch Door on this thing and my wife had that special request. So we put this Dutch Door on, got this little latch. We can open that separately and just look in and say “hi girls, how you doing”. Take a look around the run, throw some treats in if they need some. That makes it kind of handy to have this Dutch door. There’s four hinges, two for each have of this door. We remove this caribeaner and that will get us inside “can I come in, can I come in?”. You’ll notice, here’s the feeder we use, just a five gallon bucket with the feeder hoods that they can reach in there and eat. There are reinforcements on all the uprights and you can see the ceiling structure here. I’m not sure about the measurement of the spacing but it’s very sturdy. We built this on the ground and then put it on top. We got the steel for the roof fro a local supplier. Now, this is actually a lot longer run which we wanted for the chickens and that works really well for them, it’s 16 feet long. Lots of space, lots of places to run around. Hardware cloth all the way around, allows good ventilation and protection from critters. We do have raccoons and skunks in our area. Let’s see, other differences. We don’t have a door on the coop. The hens are good at going in in the evening and coming out in the morning. We’re in a pretty mild climate so we don’t need to keep the heat in. We use another 5 gallon bucket for watering. The soil we have here is really sandy, they really like it, it works well for digging and dusting. They’ve got their little dusting area underneath. This was kind of an experiment for feeding but we still have some grit in these so they can get a little grit if they want to supplement there feed. This trough we use for treats, usually the grubs. All-in-all a very sturdy structure. We do have a spring on the door so it closes automatically. There’s the barn over across the way there. We have a little wire pull to open the door, got that at Home Depot.
