20ft Sets? Puerto Escondido Was WAY Bigger Than Expected

June started with absolute power in Puerto Escondido. What was forecasted as a 10–15ft swell ended up delivering much bigger sets, with some waves pushing close to 20ft and nonstop energy marching into Zicatela all morning long. This swell was special. A small south pulse mixed with the dominant southwest swell helped shape cleaner, longer walls than what west swells usually produce. Combined with offshore winds, sunny skies, and endless wave trains, it turned into one of those unforgettable sessions. Every few minutes, huge sets rolled through with 7–8 waves per series, keeping everyone on edge. Featuring heavy waves from local chargers and visiting surfers including Nathan Florence, Greg Long, and Tom Lowe — who scored one of the best waves of the day with an incredible backside barrel on a massive right. One of the wildest parts? Watching Nathan and Tom paddle back into the lineup after giant waves instead of taking the easy route to the beach — showing the level of fitness and confidence required to survive days like this.
