The decade of war dawns and into America's arms comes one of the most beloved filmmakers ever to stand behind a camera. As they had in England, Hitchcock's films were an instant hit with American audiences. The Director's Guild? Not so much. Nominated for Best Director five times, he never won a completive Oscar, though his first American-made film would win the award for Best Picture. And, yes, Hitch's creativity was curtailed by producer David O. Selznick. Question is, did that damage the film?
