The entire area now occupied by the National Museum of Art (MUNAL), the Casa Xicoténcatl, also known as Casa Nuestra, and other businesses, was once home to the Hospital of San Andrés, one of the most important hospitals of the viceregal era. The National Museum of Art (MUNAL) was inaugurated on July 23, 1982, after the former Palace of Communications and Public Works was restored and adapted to function as a museum.
