La trasformazione di un’ex officina dove la natura diventa architettura - Ambientevario
Casa Vivaio - Ambiente Vario Casa Vivaio, designed by Ambiente Vario, is the result of the transformation of a former artisan workshop from the 1970s into a unique contemporary residence. The building, originally used as a blacksmith's workshop, retains its industrial and artisanal identity, reinterpreting it through a modern and sustainable architectural language. The project's goal was to preserve the soul of the original warehouse, enhancing the memory of the site and adapting it to a new residential function. The structure, developed almost entirely on the lot, has been redefined with large continuous windows, introducing natural light and a sense of lightness, creating a visual connection between interior and exterior. The heart of the project is the large internal patio, a true domestic "nursery" that replaces the missing garden, transforming into a central green space capable of simultaneously connecting and separating the living and sleeping areas. This breathing space, flooded with light and greenery, becomes the symbol of the project: a place of respite and contemplation, where greenery takes on an architectural function. Inside, materials such as concrete, iron, and exposed brick interact with the light and the surrounding vegetation, creating a textured and authentic atmosphere that recalls the building's former purpose as a workshop. The iron beams and tie rods were retained and highlighted, as was part of the curved standing-seam sheet metal roof, which enhances the building's original form. The reinforced concrete elements, used as functional structures and at the same time as large green "vases," create a balance between material and nature, between solidity and lightness. The living area opens into a large double-height space, punctuated by a dramatic window overlooking the central patio, while the sleeping area, conceived as a "box within a box," is constructed of a metal structure and houses symmetrical bedrooms with private bathrooms, each with a small private patio. Casa Vivaio represents a virtuous example of architectural restoration and urban regeneration, where artisanal tradition meets contemporary design and environmental sustainability. This project demonstrates how architecture can breathe new life into abandoned industrial spaces, transforming them into designer homes where greenery, materials, and light become the protagonists of a new way of living.
