In the midst of a heatwave, wildfires are keeping several parts of the country on alert. The most worrying are those in Girona, where the fire has been burning for three days and has already consumed more than 2,000 hectares, and in Soneja, Castellón, which started yesterday afternoon and has forced the evacuation of some 500 people. During the early hours, the lack of wind allowed firefighters to contain the advance of the flames, but the intense heat and strong gusts forecast are once again complicating firefighting efforts. Evacuated residents report that they barely had time to gather the essentials before leaving their homes. While the Seprona (Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard) is investigating the cause, which, for the moment, does not point to natural causes, the weather forecast continues to raise concerns about high temperatures and the risk of dry thunderstorms.
