Las personas sordas, extranjeras en su propio país | Federico Sykes | TEDxBariloche
Fede is deaf and, at different times in his life, felt like a foreigner in his own country. He only discovered sign language at the age of 23. This allowed him to find light in the darkness, to access stories, experiences, knowledge, and to take ownership of the world. In his talk, Fede tells us why the approval of a federal sign language law is so important. Federico graduated as an Image and Sound Designer from the University of Palermo in 2009, becoming the first deaf person trained in the audiovisual field in Argentina. He created and directs the International Deaf Film Festival, FiCSor, which held two editions (2016, 2018). He collaborates with the Argentine Association of Translators and Interpreters (AATI) as an External Expert Consultant in Communication Accessibility. He coordinates audiovisual projects for the program that supports deaf women in situations of gender violence, “Deaf Women Without Violence.” She currently teaches the course “Adaptation of Audiovisual Material for Deaf People” in the Postgraduate Specialization in Audiovisual Texts and Accessibility at the Sofía E. Broquen de Spangenberg Higher Normal School of Modern Languages for graduates working for Marvel, Disney, HBO, and other international companies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
