The girl, named Asirpa, had her father killed by the man who stole the gold. Sugimoto, pursuing the gold, and Asirpa, seeking revenge for her father's death, join forces. Also after the gold is Lieutenant Tsurumi Atsushiro of the Imperial Japanese Army's 7th Division. For the sake of the division members who fought and died in the Russo-Japanese War without receiving recognition, he plans to conquer Hokkaido and needs the gold as funding. Furthermore, among the prisoners is Hijikata Toshizo, the "Demon Vice-Commander" of the Shinsengumi, who was believed to have died in the Boshin War.
