¿Pensar se está volviendo un privilegio?

The Friday Roundtable with Alejandro Abal, Marcia Collazo, Víctor Ganón, and Juan Grompone. *** Is Thinking Becoming a Luxury? That is the title of a column published recently in The New York Times. In it, journalist Mary Harrington asks if the excessive use of screens and social media is generating a new form of inequality: a cognitive divide between those who can afford to limit their use of technology and develop complex intellectual skills, and those who remain trapped in what she calls "a post-literate culture" dominated by distraction and immediacy. The author draws a comparison with the consumption of ultra-processed foods and explains that, as this type of diet has become cheaper and more accessible, "developed societies have seen a gap emerge between those with the social and economic resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle and those who are more vulnerable to the obesogenic food culture." “This bifurcation,” she adds, “has a strong class influence: throughout the developed West, obesity has been strongly correlated with poverty.” Its cognitive equivalent, says Mary Harrington, is a digital diet filled with images, short videos, and memes, with little room for lyrics and in-depth texts. This would create a population more exposed to manipulation, fake news, and misinformation. What do the panelists think? Does this phenomenon exist? Is it something new? Or have we already encountered it, in other forms, in other historical moments? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Become a member of this channel to enjoy benefits: https://www.youtube.com/EnPerspectiva...
