How many times are we more concerned with seeking out the supposed "hidden intentions" of the speaker instead of truly listening to their arguments? Dialogue—true dialogue, with arguments and listening—seems to be on the decline. The idea that today it's more common to discredit others or shut down debate than to try to convince or reflect together seems to have taken hold. Or worse, the feeling that the validity of what is said has taken a backseat to who is saying it or with what intention.
