Hello! 🌞 Now that the rainy season is over, it really feels like summer is here in full swing! 🍉 I ordered some sweet corn—a favorite of both my mom and me—and used it to make some corn dishes. 🌽 I’m also sharing a recipe for "Nice Cream" (banana-based ice cream made without sugar) and showing you how to make delicious iced coffee—a skill I picked up while working at a café! Starting with this video, I’ve decided to include a little diary entry in the description box. 📝 It’s a special space shared just between you and me, so I’d love it if you could take a moment to read it along with watching the video. ✨ —Today’s Diary— There is a book that comes to mind whenever I eat corn: Suki yo, Tomorokoshi ("I Love Corn"), an essay collection by Yuka Nakamae—someone whose work I adore. The passages recounting memories of Ms. Nakamae and her mother often resonate with my own experiences, so reading her book makes me think of my own mother. It is a book that means a great deal to me. Whenever the conversation turns to my mother and my grandfather, my mother almost invariably bursts into tears. At those moments, I feel a deep sense of despondency, wondering if "death" truly means a final, eternal parting. Will I, too, have to face an "eternal parting" with my mother someday...? When I run up against a wall of grief that feels insurmountable, it takes me a long time to find a way through it. My mother is the type who laughs out loud in movie theaters and boldly grabs handfuls of popcorn, making a loud rustling sound. Even though I’ve often scolded her in a hushed voice, saying, "You're too loud!", I find myself wondering if, with the passage of time, even these moments will become cherished memories. My mother has overworked her hands for years, and recently, she has begun to pay the price for it. Her condition is actually severe enough to require surgery (though, in fact, she is currently postponing the procedure). To spare her from having to use her hands, I want to cook for her whenever I visit my parents' home, and I hope to introduce her to recipes she has never tasted before.
