William Walton: Sonata for Strings (1973)

William Walton (1902-1983) was a British composer. He wrote instrumental works for orchestra, as well as opera, and film scores. Among his best known works is Fasçade, and two coronation marches. The Sonata for Strings was adapted from one of his earlier String Quartets, and was premiered by Neville Marriner the year before this album was released.
