PROGRAMA HECHOS A LA AREQUIPEÑA, CAPITULO EL CAÑON DE COTAHUASI

"Made in Arequipa" Program, Chapter: The Cotahuasi Canyon The Cotahuasi Canyon, also known as "The Canyon of Wonders" or the Cotahuasi Sub-basin, is located approximately 400 km northwest of the city of Arequipa, Peru. The history of the Cotahuasi Canyon is directly linked to the history of the province of La Unión. This region was occupied during the Late Horizon II period by the Wari culture, which in turn succumbed to the Inca culture around 1165 AD. While the Incas held these lands, they used them as a route to connect Cusco with the coast, thus shortening the well-known "salt route."
