capoerapod com Mestre Jurandir

Master Jurandir was born in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, in 1960. He is one of the pioneers of the Roda de Caxias, one of the most traditional capoeira circles in Brazil, which celebrated 50 years of cultural resistance in 2023. Along with Master Cobra Mansa and Master Rogério, Master Jurandir pioneered the development of Capoeira Angola in Belo Horizonte since the early 1980s, when he settled in the city to share his knowledge with local practitioners. As one of the founders of the International Capoeira Angola Foundation (FICA), an institution created in 1995, Master Jurandir has been fundamental in the preservation and dissemination of Capoeira Angola, both nationally and internationally. FICA focuses on respect for the ancestry and ritualistic tradition of this cultural expression. During this period, capoeira began to expand to the United States, Europe, Japan, and Africa. In 2018, Mestre Jurandir was awarded the Popular Cultures Prize - Selma do Côco Edition. In 2022, he celebrated 50 years of dedication to Capoeira Angola, standing out in art, culture, musicality, movement, and ancestral values. In the same year, he was recognized by the municipality of Belo Horizonte as a master of popular culture at the 5th Masters of Popular Culture Award.
