In London and Toronto the second song was a Crosby Stills and Nash song Helplessly Hoping:    • The Castellows - Helplessly Hoping (Crosby...   This "hat-trick" of three shows fans scored in the Great White North welcomed singer-songwriter Delaney Ramsdell as the opening act. Delaney was great - check out this clip from the London show: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVh35A... Delaney joined the Balkcom sisters, Ellie, Lily and Powell to perform the unreleased 501S during the acoustic set. She co-wrote this song with Lily and Powell as we hear in the pre-song "Balkcom-banter" introduction. They wrote it on tour with Thomas Rhett last summer. Now about song-writing sessions. Last summer I started to binge watch the series Nashville last summer and a lot revolves around songwriting and partnerships scheduled writing sessions. Since she has a steady writing gig I asked Delaney after this Montreal show if she ever saw Nashville and how much of it was true. She said she has never seen it but heard 5%. That's probably comparable to doctor and police shows too, right? They make them all into a soap opera for entertainment value .. i.e., they are no documentaries after all, right? So 501S ... what does that mean? There were a few Americans from across the border at this show I think - they were chanting U-S-A, U-S-A!! during a break. Close but no, it doesn't mean 51st State LOL!!! It references denim, like Levis 501 denim blue jeans in the song's chorus: "I'll be your denim baby, from Americana silver screen, Going 8-track crazy, be whatever you want me to be, My heads in the clouds, flying too close to the sun, All I've got is a dream and a prayer and a pair of 501s" The verses are about a relationship and simple things in life. I haven't figured it all out. The chorus is being nostalgic and I think the reference to denim is about being reliable and lasting .. you know like blue jeans :) Simple and comfortable too right? I think some lyrics mention 'burn one' and there is a lyric about reaching into a pocket for a lighter. Not sure about that reference but Delaney talked about smoking in a couple of her set intros on this tour. I absolutely love the sound of Powell's banjo in this one. You don't always here it in the mixes with the full band but here in the acoustic set all her riffs and runs are clear. PS - the set list said "501S" and there is a WWII Levis S series that is more budget friendly. I would say the song title is more like "501's", like the way it is said at the end of the chorus.
