Molly Long analyzes the key role of women in the American Revolution and their influence on the creation of the United States. The history of American independence cannot be understood without the decisive, and often overlooked, role of women. The Rubió i Tudurí Foundation presents the lecture “Women in the Shadows: The Role of Women in the Independence of the United States,” given by Molly Long, as part of the series dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. Throughout this session, the participation of women in the American Revolution is analyzed, highlighting their contributions in key areas such as financial support, logistics, military service, intellectual leadership, and political engagement. Beyond traditional narratives, the lecture emphasizes the essential role they played in building a new nation. The experiences of these women were diverse and complex, shaped by factors such as race, social class, and political loyalties, but collectively their influence proved decisive in the development of the independence movement and the shaping of American society. Molly Long, a graduate in Communications from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (Baltimore), has extensive experience in institutions related to international relations and American history. She is a member of the American Women’s Club and the American Club of Madrid, has served as president of the U.S. Navy League's Madrid and European councils, and is a member of the Advisory Board of The Hispanic Council. In addition, she is president of the Spain-United States of America 250 Association and vice president of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, making her an authoritative voice in historical dissemination and the relationship between Spain and the United States.
