N222 La MEJOR CARRETERA del Mundo 🇵🇹 | El Corazón del Valle del Duero (Cap. 2)

We're still devouring the best road in the world! 🏍️💨 In this Chapter 2 of our adventure along Route N222, we delve into the true heart of the Douro Valley, the most spectacular and famous stretch in all of Portugal. We wake up in São João da Pesqueira and kick things off with a bang, flying the drone over the impressive Ferradosa Bridge (with all the official flight permits in order! ✅). After stumbling upon an unexpected and colorful Carnival parade, we peer over the abyss at the N222 Heart of the Douro viewpoint. The views are out of this world! The route takes us across the historic iron bridge of Pinhão (designed by none other than Gustave Eiffel) to visit its legendary train station. Its 1937 tiles, still in use, are an open-air museum that tells the hard history of the grape harvest on the terraces of the famous "quintas" (estate estates). Taking advantage of the break and to refuel, we went into Casa dos Peixinhos for a delicious feijoada and the classic cod, also getting a new and precious stamp in our N222 Passport. 🛂🤤 We wrapped up this epic day by arriving in Peso da Régua, visiting the Douro Museum, and bidding farewell to the day with a magical sunset over the river.
