Tillamook to Longview | Hwy 6 | Leaving the Coast Behind

Welcome to a 7-minute scenic road trip marking the final chapter of our Oregon journey. In this video, we pack up and say goodbye to the ocean, driving from historic downtown Tillamook into the emerald forests of Highway 6, before crossing the Columbia River into Longview, Washington. Set to an upbeat yet deeply relaxing acoustic soundtrack, this travel diary captures the peaceful, transitional rhythm of the open highway. Our drive begins rolling past the nostalgic storefronts of Tillamook. Turning inland onto Highway 6 (the Wilson River Highway), the scenery shifts dramatically into a winding canopy of dense timber and quiet farmlands. This highway follows an ancient footpath used for generations by the Tillamook people, but its modern layout has a deeply dramatic history. In 1933, a catastrophic forest fire known as the 'Tillamook Burn' devastated over 300,000 acres of prime old-growth forest. During the Great Depression, a massive public works project was launched to salvage the timber, plant millions of new trees, and blast a continuous, smooth highway through the rugged Coast Range so travelers could easily experience this reborn emerald forest. After miles of quiet, tree-lined roads, our journey comes to a quiet conclusion as we drive through Longview and cross the mighty Columbia River. The iconic Lewis and Clark Bridge seen here is a living legend of Pacific Northwest engineering. When it opened in 1930, it stood as the longest and highest cantilever span in the United States, built as a private gamble to connect the booming timber empires of Oregon and Washington. Hop on in and enjoy this short, peaceful visual escape as we chase the road home. Thank you for following along on this coastal gem of a springtime roadtrip! #Highway6 #Tillamook #OregonToWashington
