Creating atmosphere in your prints - (using viscosity, monotype and intaglio technique)
I built an app for artists who want real critique and advice - see it here - https://apps.apple.com/eg/app/art-cri... In this collagraph, I demonstrate how to achieve an atmospheric beach landscape using monotype, viscosity and intaglio printing techniques. Apologies it's a little late, (the family got in the way a little last week 🙂 ) The first part of the video is about viscosity, which is a liquid that can be mixed with sand or other materials to create textures for prints. Then I talked about monotype printing, which is an intaglio printmaking technique where you use paint instead of ink and press it onto paper to make your image. 🧰 - MATERIALS Intaglio Printmaker Inks: Prussian Blue, Zinc White, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber Paper: Snowdon 300g Press: Polymetaal HS-35 Tabletop Etching Press Poly filla Wood glue Enviroboard Shellac TIMESTAMPS 0:00 - Introduction 3:50 - Applying Polyfilla 4:20 - Applying Wood glue 5:15 - Inking up the printing plate 5:30 - Wiping Ink Off 5:46 - Applying diluted ink with hard roller 5:56 - Applying blue ink with soft roller 5:60 - Applying monotype finishing touches 6:40 - The big reveal 👉 Please subscribe here - / @collagraphprinting #collagraph #intaglio #printmaking Viscosity printing is a process in which an ink-based image is transferred to the surface of paper or cloth from specially prepared paper with a high viscosity. The technique was developed by the artist and printmaker Gyula Kosice (1914-1989), who used it for his prints, book illustrations, maps and posters.
