The popular liqueur is hard to come by these days, and without divine intervention, you should expect it to be in short supply for some time... possibly forever. While some think Bénédictine is also made by monks, that is just a made-up story for marketing reasons. Chartreuse, on the other hand, has a long-standing history and this liqueur has a secret recipe known only to a handful of Carthusian Monks. After a little history on Chartreuse and why it's hard to find, we'll make a Chartreuse Swizzle which is a modern cocktail from San Francisco bartender Marco Dionysos. The recipe is at the very bottom of the description. In the video I do mention the scarcity of Chartreuse in the US often leads to distributors deciding on where it goes. I live in California, where our distributors are businesses/companies that distribute and sell to retail and restaurants.
