Hualien - The Gateway to Taroko Gorge l Taiwan

In Taiwan I continue my journey up the east coast, this time I’m stopping in Hualien. This is a vibrant coastal city and known as the gateway to the Taroko Gorge. The gorge is unfortunately still mostly closed after an earthquake a few years ago caused major damage, so the city tends to be a bit quieter then it used to be, but still well worth a visit. Also, if you’re here in the right season, this is a major spot from where you can go out for whale watching. I mostly spend my time wandering around, in the city as well as a beautiful route along the coast.
