#cotswolds #EnglishVillage #walkingtour In today’s video, we explore one of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds – Great Barrington, a true Cotswolds hidden gem tucked away near Burford. If you’re searching for off-the-beaten-track Cotswolds villages, rich history, and breathtaking English countryside, Great Barrington is an absolute must-visit. Welcome back to Roaming The Cotswolds! If you love discovering hidden gems, charming villages, and breathtaking countryside, you’re in exactly the right place—so make sure to hit that subscribe button, give the video a like, and let me know in the comments what you think of this beautiful spot! Great Barrington is steeped in history, with roots stretching all the way back to the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as ‘Bernintone’, meaning ‘settlement of Beorn’. Through the centuries, the village has seen fascinating changes—from its time under Llanthony Priory in the Middle Ages, through ownership by the Bray family, and later the Talbot family, who shaped much of what we see today. Nearby lies Barrington Park, a stunning Palladian country house built in the 18th century, which remains in the hands of the same family to this day—adding to the timeless feel of this beautiful corner of the Cotswolds. At the heart of the village stands the magnificent St Mary’s Church, dating back to the 12th century. This historic church is not only architecturally beautiful, but also holds memorials to the families who shaped Great Barrington’s story over the centuries. As we wander through the village, you’ll immediately notice what makes this place so special—rows of quintessential honey-coloured Cotswold stone cottages, perfectly preserved and full of character. The single main street, lined with these stunning homes, leads us gently through the village from the charming green and out towards sweeping views of the rolling English countryside. It’s the kind of place where time slows down. You can hear the birds, feel the calm, and truly appreciate the natural beauty that defines the Cotswolds. And of course, no visit to Great Barrington would be complete without stopping at The Fox Inn. This wonderful village pub, with over 300 years of history, is the perfect place to relax at the end of a walk. Sitting out on the riverside patio with a drink in hand, especially on a warm spring day, is an experience that perfectly captures the magic of this village. Great Barrington offers something truly special. While nearby destinations like Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water attract the crowds, this peaceful village remains wonderfully under the radar—a perfect escape for anyone looking to experience the quieter, more authentic side of the Cotswolds.
