Oldest Photos of Malta by Calvert Jones (1846-1847) Fortified Island of the Knights Hospitaller

Today we will dive deep into an outstanding collection of photographs of Malta taken in the years 1846 and 1847 by Calvert Jones. These images are considered to be some of the oldest surviving photographs of Malta, and the first to utilize cutting edge technologies like the Salted Paper and Calotype processes to create remarkably detailed images. The entire island of Malta appears replete with fortifications, and as we dive into the historical narrative, we have a multitude of different groups that claim responsibility for this construction. The real question, however, is when was it all founded, and how old is the infrastructure in Malta?
