Today, we'll explore Casinhas, a welcoming town in the Pernambuco Agreste region, where the simplicity of life, the strength of work, and the beauty of nature come together to tell a story of overcoming challenges and development. From above, it's possible to contemplate tranquil streets, houses that preserve the typical style of small northeastern towns, green areas, mountains, and a landscape that reveals all the beauty of the interior of Pernambuco. But to understand Casinhas, we need to go back to the end of the 19th century. According to local tradition, around 1890, there was a small straw house on this road. A lady lived there who used to offer shelter to travelers crossing the region between Bom Jardim and the forest that existed at that time. That simple dwelling became a landmark for those passing through. Over the years, other families began to settle around this small nucleus, giving rise to the village that would be named Casinhas. A few years later, in 1894, the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was built by Professor José Merim. The church strengthened the community and consolidated the growth of the village. To this day, Our Lady of Sorrows is the patron saint of the municipality, and faith continues to be one of the strongest characteristics of the Casinhas population. For many decades, Casinhas belonged to the municipality of Surubim. Only on July 12, 1995, was its political emancipation achieved, officially becoming a municipality in Pernambuco. The definitive installation of the new municipality took place on January 1, 1997, marking the beginning of a new stage in its history. Located in the Agreste region of Pernambuco, Casinhas is part of the Borborema Plateau region, known for its undulating terrain, pleasant climate for much of the year, and beautiful natural landscapes. Viewed from above, it's possible to perceive the harmony between the urban area and the rural zone, a striking characteristic of the municipalities in this region. The economy of Casinhas has always been strongly linked to the countryside. Family farming and livestock represent important sources of income for many families. The cultivation of corn, beans, cassava, and other traditional crops shares space with cattle raising and milk production, activities that help to drive the local economy. In recent years, the municipality has also gained prominence for the artisanal production of traditional butter cheese, a product that represents the quality and tradition of the people of Casinhas and that has already been presented at important state events. But Casinhas' greatest asset is not only in its history or its landscapes. It is in its people. A hardworking, hospitable people deeply connected to their roots. People who preserve the traditions of the countryside, value family, keep religiosity alive, and enthusiastically celebrate the popular festivals that strengthen the city's cultural identity. The festivities of the patron saint Our Lady of Sorrows bring together residents and visitors in moments of faith, devotion, and fellowship. As in so many cities in the Agreste region, the June festivals also hold a special place in the hearts of the people of Casinhas, with plenty of forró music, typical foods, and expressions of Northeastern culture. While the images show each street, each square, and each landscape, we realize that Casinhas is much more than a small inland municipality. It is a place where past and present walk together. Where new generations continue to build the history begun by that small straw house that gave the city its name. Each road, each rural community, and each resident is part of this trajectory of growth, work, and hope. And it is precisely this simplicity that makes Casinhas so special. We hope this flight has allowed you to learn a little more about this beautiful city in the Agreste region of Pernambuco.
