HUACONADA DE MITO 2026 (Una hermosa danza ancestral)

Mito, located in the province of Concepción, Junín region, Peru, is famous for its rich cultural tradition, especially the Huaconada de Mito, a ritual dance declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Celebrated between January 1st and 3rd, it represents a unique expression of the Andean worldview and its connection to nature and the community. The district of Mito is one of the fifteen districts that make up the province of Concepción in the department of Junín, under the administration of the Regional Government of Junín, in central Peru. The Huaconada de Mito is an ancestral ritual dance of the district of Mito, celebrated in grand style in January. Its protagonists are the famous Huacones, who represent ancient mayors, imparting moral authority with whips also called "tronadores" (thunderers).
