I grew up surfing, riding my bike to the beach, picking crabs, camping in Back Bay Wildlife Refuge, kayaking to school like the little hippy I was, secretly loving hurricanes, and a multitude of other angsty beach boy things. As I got older I gravitated more towards the mountains. In the Blue Ridge grew my love for backpacking, fly fishing, all things gravel roads, general solitude, and photography. Next to music, photography is one of my favorite things in the world and Virginia is a big reason for that. I love where I’m from for so many reasons, but there’s a casual beauty to Virginia that never ceases to amaze me. I remember driving from Crozet to Charlottesville during the one period of my life I actually had a morning commute and the entire drive was a painting. I love this place, I miss it everyday, but I’m ever grateful she’s always there waiting for me. And in the meantime, I’ll keep writing songs about coming home.
