Funeral For A Friend (Live cut at Pentavarit) - Will Overman

Funeral For A Friend written by Will Overman and Brad Sample Recorded live at Pentavarit Studios, Nashville TN Listen to Funeral For A Friend from my new album 'Stranger' on your favorite streaming service: https://ffm.to/stranger-album.OYD This wasn't the final take that made the Stranger LP (unfortunately we don't have that on video), but it was one of the couple takes of this song that I made during recording. About Funeral For A Friend: The first song I wrote for my album Stranger was Funeral For A Friend. While going through my own divorce a few years ago, a thought hit me while out running one day in Richmond, VA past the famous Hollywood Cemetery - that divorce is kind of like a funeral or a death... but without the celebration. There's no sharing of stories, no meeting family, no toasts, no teary smiles, no he’s/she's in a better place now. It’s over: her life, my life, our life together, the relationships with each other's families, etc. When I moved back to Nashville, I brought the idea to my friend and co-producer of the album Brad Sample and we wrote this song. So whether you're going through divorce, a break up, or just missing someone you used to love, I hope it's a comfort to anyone who listens. Funeral For A Friend Lyrics: You died six months ago On February 5th I’m a different man now I just wish you could have met him then We always hated Valentine’s Just like we hated New Year’s Eve We thought our love was so much greater than One day but now I’m starting to see There’s something ‘bout a heart shaped card There’s something to a midnight kiss There ain’t nothing ‘bout who you are That I ain’t gonna miss Our love was supposed to last till the end Now everyday is a funeral for a friend Running from my southern roots There’s nothing like the coast of Maine When that Nashville rain it turned to snow, I was wondering Did she change her name? I remember how she laughed When I got down on one knee Said ain’t it funny for someone so in love To have to ask, but now I’m starting to see There’s something about a heart shaped card There’s something to a midnight kiss There ain’t nothing about who you are oh That I ain’t gonna miss Our love was supposed to last till the end Now everyday is a funeral for a friend When I was close I felt so far away Now that I’m gone I think of you every day You died six months ago On February 5th And I can’t jump to a few years down the road This ain’t a movie, this shit’s as real as it gets There’s something ‘bout a heart shaped card There’s something to a midnight kiss There ain’t nothing about all we were Oh that I ain’t gonna miss Our love was s’posed to last till the end Our love was s’posed to last till the end But our love didn’t last in the end Now every day is a funeral for a friend ------------------------------------------------------------- Filmed by Vinny Buchanan Recorded live at Pentavarit Studios in Nashville, TN Acoustic Guitar and Vocals by Will Overman Piano by Stephen Roach (not pictured in the video but was performing on the track in one of the isolation booths in the main room) Mixed by Bobby Holland For fans of Foy Vance, Noah Gundersen, Donovan Woods #acoustic #singersongwriter #newmusic #breakupsong #divorce
