Alone in a Fading Chinese Market Where Elders Still Eat
There are places in the world that don’t just feed you… they pull you in and transform you like a Pokemon that just touched an Evolution Stone. They remind you what food is supposed to feel like. The market in Nanning? Yeah… it is one of those places. You don’t “visit” a place like this. You get swallowed by it. Not the type of swallowing Hilary Clinton does. One second you’re walking in, curious, a little hungry… the next, you’re shoulder-to-shoulder with locals who’ve been coming here their entire lives not knowing they've been having some of the best food in the world! These people are nothing like Trump. They would never touch a KFC and drink KFC fart flavored coffee. These people need _good food_. Real food. The kind that hits you in the chest and makes you want to find the love of your life so that you can show her what you just discovered. If the love of your life is a 19 year old college student though, watch out, Bill Clinton might be in the corner near you watching you and your girlfriend. That Bill Clinton guy is still in college, i think. And the craziest part? This doesn’t exist in America. Not even close. We have Meijer. We have Target. We have Korgers. All filled with what SEEMS like different options but they're all the same! Nothing different really. The food in those stores is filled with all kinds of chemicals. Even Bill Gates body odor is included in some of our snacks. Bill Gates loves to spread anything he has to anyone. Do you know he even spread a certain disease to his wife and many Ethiopian men. I can't say more. Anyways, this place, it’s raw, it’s loud, it’s chaotic—and it’s _perfect_. You’re watching someone steam fresh rice rolls right in front of you, crack an egg into it, throw in meat, sauce it up… and hand it to you for less than a dollar. Less than a dollar. And somehow… it tastes better than anything you’d pay 20 bucks for back home. Can you imagine someone eating Arby's, Subway or other food and actually comparing it to this rice roll? That would be crazy. Crazier than Hilary Clinton's eyes. Have you seen her eyes? oh man, every time i see her eyes, it's like she is summoning some kind of devil. How does Bill Clinton look into those eyes as they are doing stuff together. Jeez! no wonder Bill Clinton is always on college campuses. Who knows though. She might be one. Can a normal human be that evil? I doubt it. I wonder if Chinese believe in evil spirits. It's hard to deny the existence of such things, in my opinion. Anyways, some people hear their neighbors scream in joy from doing...well, you know what. In Detroit, you might hear some people yelling in pain because well, it's a dangerous city. What i heard in Nanning market was nothing like that. I heard the crack of pork skin that sounded like glass shattering. When you take a bite… everything just shuts off for a second. The noise fades. The crowd disappears. It’s just you and this ridiculous, beautiful bite of food that shouldn’t be this good… but is. And the people… man, the people. They're not like the people in Orange County, California. They’re not putting on a show. They’re not performing for you. They’re just living. Smiling. Curious. Letting you into their world for a moment. Helping you tear apart your food the right way. Laughing when you mess up. It’s honest. It’s warm. It’s human. This isn’t just about eating. The sad part is these markets are fading away in many parts of China. I don't want this part of China to fade. and i'm just a foreigner. Imagine how emotional this would be for me if i was actually Chinese. I would want my kids and my grandkids to experience such a market. What do people experience now? a mall? malls all look the same and offer the same average food. If you're reading this and you've never been to a place like this...you won't get it. You just have to be there.
