Prayer of the Rosary Saint John Paul II “The Rosary has accompanied me in moments of joy and in trials. I have entrusted so many concerns to it; in it I have always found comfort.” Glorious Mysteries 1st The Resurrection of Jesus Christ “For I passed on to you what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve” (1 Cor 15:3-5). The news of the resurrection was transmitted to us by the Apostles and passes from generation to generation. It is the center of our faith and our witness. 2nd The Ascension of Jesus Christ to Heaven “Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Do not set your hearts on earth” (Col 3:1-2). The things of heaven are shown to us by the Gospel, which indicates the high goals to achieve, soaring ever higher, opening our hearts to the Living One. 3rd The Descent of the Holy Spirit “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5). The fruits of the Spirit, which have been given to us, are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, happiness, gentleness, self-control. 4th The Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven “I will praise your name throughout all generations, and the peoples will praise you forever” (Psalm 45:18). The peoples, turning to Mary in Heaven, venerate her, love her, invoke her, and imitate her. Through Mary, they desire to reach Jesus, her Son. 5th The Coronation of Our Lady in Heaven “My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the humble estate of his servant” (Luke 1:47-48). According to the word of Lord, whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Mary, the humble servant of the Lord, was exalted above the angels. She is our Mother and Queen. Saint of the Day Saint John Gualbert, hero of forgiveness Origins The second son of the Visdonini family, John Gualbert was born in 995 in Florence. Murder of his brother His brother was murdered and, like his father, John Gualbert was consumed by a feeling of revenge and swore to kill the murderer. One day, on a narrow road, Gualbert found him unarmed and alone. Immediately, he drew his sword, but his adversary fell to his knees and pleaded: “For the love of Jesus, who died for us today, have mercy on me, do not kill me!” It was Good Friday of 1028, and thus touched by the mercy of God, John Gualbert forgave him. Then, he went to a church and, before the Cross, asked for the grace of forgiveness and life. New. Monk and Abbot In the following years, John Gualbert became a humble monk. He was an example of discipline in the Rules, in study, prayer, penance, and charity. Furthermore, he acquired the gift of prophecy and miracles. In 1035, with the death of the abbot, he was unanimously elected as his successor, but he immediately resigned when he learned that the treasurer monk had bribed the Bishop of Florence to choose him as the new abbot. Order of Benedictine Monks of Vallombrosa When he left the monastery, he went to live in a forest in the Apennine Mountains, on Mount Vallombrosa, overlooking the green Arno Valley. The place began to receive numerous young people seeking spiritual guidance, thanks to the fame of his holiness. Thus arose a new monastery and a new religious congregation. John Gualbert wanted to maintain the Rules of the Benedictine monks. Soon, the Order of Monks Benedictines of Vallombrosa obtained canonical approval. It was founded from other monasteries, such as that of Passignano, in Umbria. Easter John Gualbert died on July 12, 1073, and is considered the hero of forgiveness. He was canonized in 1193 and declared Patron Saint of Foresters by Pope Pius XII in 1951. My prayer “Saint John Gualbert, whose heart was touched by the mercy of God and who granted forgiveness to the murderer of your brother, I ask that you grant us the grace to forgive our neighbor in all circumstances. Amen.” Saint John Gualbert, pray for us! Home All Saints Homily Liturgy Search
