A domestically produced wild grapevine handbag and a walnut handbag, both cherished by a customer for 35 years, arrived at Taketora for repair. Both are clearly the result of meticulous weaving by skilled Japanese craftsmen. The continued use has created a magnificent patina. Domestic wild grapevine baskets are very durable and flexible, and develop even more depth with use. On the other hand, while walnut baskets are slightly less durable than wild grape baskets, their unique wood grain and woven pattern make them a popular natural material. Now, let's focus on this walnut tote bag. The joint between the handle and the main body, which is particularly prone to wear and tear, may seem simple, but it actually uses more durable wild grape. This demonstrates the ingenuity of craftsmen who deeply understand the properties of mountain materials, and reflects their dedication to enhancing the strength of the walnut basket and ensuring customer satisfaction. #WildGrapeBasket #WalnutBasket #WildGrapeBagRepair Subscribe here: / taketora1894 Taketora (Taketora) - Specialist in Tiger Bamboo https://www.taketora.co.jp/ [30-Year Blog] Taketora's Fourth Generation! https://www.taketora.co.jp/diary/ [Taketora Instagram] / taketora1894 [Taketora Official LINE] https://lin.ee/yivIEXD [Taketora Pinterest] / taketora [Taketora 4th Generation Twitter] / taketora1894 [TAKETORA The company explanation] https://www.taketora.co.jp/c/special/... ======= ■Taketora 4th Generation (Yoshihiro Yamagishi) Profile The fourth generation of a long-established bamboo shop that has been in business since 1894 (Meiji 27). The company, which had been in business for 100 years, faced the risk of bankruptcy. In 1997, he built a website to introduce the unique tiger-striped bamboo (Torafudake), which only grows in Kochi Prefecture and has attracted attention from overseas media such as the BBC, but it was a complete failure. Re-examining the local resources of tiger bamboo and rediscovering its charm and brand power. The fourth-generation owner of Taketora, one of only two World Bamboo Ambassadors in Japan and a director of the All Japan Bamboo Industry Federation, promotes this with the spirit of "NO BAMBOO NO LIFE." In 2016, he successfully crowdfunded to create the "Bamboo Tracker," Japan's only electric vehicle made from tiger bamboo. It traveled 1000 kilometers from Kochi to Yokohama in 11 days. In 2017, he was invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consulate-General of Japan in São Paulo to lecture on the potential of bamboo at JAPAN HOUSE Sao Paulo and Paulista University of São Paulo. In 2018, he delivered a keynote speech at the World Bamboo Conference held in Xalapa, Mexico, titled "100 Years with Japan's Only Tiger Bamboo: Sustainable Utilization of Local Resources." He transported the Bamboo Tracker to Mexico and made the run a reality. He was appointed one of only two World Bamboo Ambassadors in Japan. In 2019, to commemorate its 125th anniversary, the company produced the "REIWA-125" box cart vehicle. Equipped with tiger bamboo armor, it participated in a box cart race held in Vitoria, Spain, and received a special appreciation award (Mencion especial) along with three other bamboo teams from Spain, France, and Japan. It also participated in the Red Bull Box Cart Race at Tokyo Yomiuri Land, achieving a remarkable second place against strong competitors from across Japan. In 2021, it received the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award for Hometown Development. In 2024, it brought its bamboo tracker to the 12th World Bamboo Congress Taiwan and participated in the Challenge Run Taiwan, running on a specially prepared 2km course within National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University. This showcased Japanese bamboo culture, particularly tiger bamboo, and demonstrated the potential of bamboo. In 2024, to commemorate its 130th anniversary, the company produced the "Toratake-go" Yosakoi festival float using tiger bamboo and participated in the Yosakoi Festival. In 2025, selected from Rakuten's 58,000 stores—a highly competitive award given to only 0.2%—the Rakuten Shop of the Year Sustainability Award. Also, delivered a keynote speech at the All Japan Bamboo Industry Federation's National Bamboo Convention in Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 2026, conducted a two-week workshop as part of the National Institute of Design (NID) openelective (a short-term intensive design program). The workshop focused on Japanese bamboo culture and tiger bamboo, a specialty product of Kochi Prefecture, prov...
