UP 5940 Z-Train & UP 9919 Goshen Local | W, Olive Ave. Railroad Crossing, Fresno CA

May 27, 2026 10:34am After filming the grain train near Madera I had caught up too, I came back to Fresno and setup here minutes before the Goshen Local called the dispatcher to depart and head south but the Z-Train was already in the mix approaching Downtown Fresno therefore, they had to wait till it passed until they were able to continue south after coming out the UPRR Fresno Yard. After it passed, the Goshen headed straight to the Goshen Siding with no stop at Traver while on the way. This is my first time filming the Goshen Local also the LRF 80 job. It's another local that uses SD59MX's as its power. I filmed both and kept it in one video and some approach train views. I timed some approach view a little off which is why there are long before activation segments for example, I turned back to the crossing way too early when the Goshen was approaching as I thought it was moving faster. Union Pacific Railroad Z-Train, Intermodal Stack Train northbound and afterwards the LRF80 Goshen Local freight train southbound on the UPRR Fresno Sub passes through the West Olive Avenue railroad crossing in Fresno, California. This crossing features on the east side, an SP era 70s/80s signal that was modernized a way while ago and on the western side an modern early 2020s Siemens UP signal that features double counterweight arms as UP 2020 Siemens signals and even the 2010s modals usually only feature 1 counterweight arm and double are usually used for exit gate signals only by UP on Siemens and Invensys signals. Where I'm standing used to be a four way intersection of North Golden State Boulevard and W Olive Ave which is why there are side lights on the close signal but it currently was changed to a T intersection as construction is going on a wall being built that will be the trench of the UP Fresno Sub and the CAHSR line and will take all tracks under this roadway to eliminate this railroad crossing in the next few years as Fresno goes for a grade crossing less downtown and north side of Fresno, unfortunately.
