UP 3062 & SacRT Light Rail Trains With Stop Order - Meadowview Rd. Railroad Crossing, Sacramento CA

May 22, 2026 Well I was disappointed with how this catch video turned out and it was already a long day so I was agitated. So first, I came out here before the Z train made it after filming up north near Arden/Del Paso and made it down this way in time. Unfortunately however, for some reason, SACRT put in a stop and go crossing order on this crossing for no reason. I'm not sure why. I know that the crossing tram signs did activate once for no reason only to deactivate with no crossing activation as no train was coming. When the light rail trains came, they had a stop order suddenly but the freight line didn't have any crossing orders. The extended gate down times caused a lot of traffic and also of course, timed a truck towing another truck to block my view so now I have a messy video of this crossing and have to work again to come back out and re film. Also, as you see, light rails were suddenly running single car so there must have been an issue as SACRT infrastructure is sensitive nowadays to hot temperature days plus the old cars the Blue Line is still running. Since the light rail caused extended gate downtime, the last light rail cleared when the freight train Z was a mile out and this crossing has a system that keeps the UP side gate down when a freight train is coming a mile out when a light rail exits, keeps the UP gate down to prevent traffic backup onto the tracks when a freight train is immediately coming due to also the intersection ahead may stop traffic onto the tracks which is also what the yellow flashers are for here. The gate down is not a malfunction but I know people are still going to comment malfunctioning gate because they wont read the description wether its long or not. This is one of the reasons I hate filming this gate functioning system and at times, Meadowview is an annoying crossing to film anyway. SACRT and UP after the 2015 light rail extension never really came out to completely fix this crossings extended gate down time after light rail clear and the crossing has a slow response system if a gate immediately has to drop again as I caught years ago when a local use to switch here and immediately turn around. This crossing is a jointly owned mixed install by Sacramento Regional Transit and Union Pacific with the two closest signals being an mixed install with the shoulder cantilever being an WP 1970s signal install with its bell, lights and mast light head and junction box being the changes. Its gated mast is an UP early 2010s signal install with changes to its gate and gate lights. The close gateless signal is an UP Mid 2010s signal install.
